Codes of Practice

The WorkCover Authority of NSW has produced these Industry Codes of Practice. Copies of these codes of practice are available from the UnionSafe website

IT’S THE LAW!

There are laws that cover workplace safety. For example there is the OHS Act 2000 and the NSW OHS Regulation 2001. In addition to the Acts and Regulation WorkCover has produced a number of Codes of Practice. These provide practical guidance for employers and employees to follow. WorkCover inspectors often refer to Codes of Practice when issuing notices to employers.

  • Amenities for Construction Work Code of Practice

Provides employers, self-employed persons and employees with practical advice on the provision of a minimum standard of amenities for persons engaged in all construction work

  • Amenity Tree Industry Code of Practice

This code applies to the amenity tree industry for pruning, trimming, repairing, maintaining, transplanting, removing trees, wood chipping, stump grinding and for equipment used in such operations.

  • Cash in Transit Code of Practice

A practical guide for employers and others, who have duties for their particular area of work in dealing with Cash in Transit.

  • Construction Testing Concrete Pumps Code of Practice

This Code applies to pump units, placing booms and ancillary equipment used for the conveyance of concrete where the pump unit is skid mounted, trailer mounted or vehicle (prime mover) mounted.

  • Control of Workplace Hazardous Substances Codes of Practice

The code is part of a regulatory package designed to deal with the safe use of hazardous substances in the workplace so as to minimise the risk of disease and injury due to the exposure of hazardous substances in the workplace.

  • Cutting and Drilling Concrete and other Masonry Products Code of Practice

Provides employers, self-employed persons and employees with practical advice on the use of saws and drills and associated equipment used in the cutting and drilling of concrete and other building structural materials during construction work

  • Design, Manufacture & Installation of On-farm and Field Silos Codes of Practice

This code of practice sets out the minimum safety requirements for the design, manufacture and installation of silos and field bins used on farms.

  • Electrical Practices for Construction Work Code of Practice

The purpose of this Code is to provide practical guidance and set minimum safety requirements for electrical practices on all construction sites in NSW.

  • Facade Retention Code of Practice

Provides industry with a set of minimum safety requirements applicable to facade retention. It sets out the minimum requirements for the safe planning, procedures and maintenance for facade retention.

  • Formwork Code of Practice

Provides employers, self-employed and employees with practical advice on preventing injury to persons engaged in erecting and dismantling formwork and associated equipment.

  • Hot Or Cold Environments Code Of Practice

The aim of this code of practice is to assist employers in deciding on appropriate measures to eliminate or control the risks to employees who work in hot or cold environments.

  • Induction Training for Construction

Practical advice on the provision of occupational health and safety induction training to persons engaged in construction work.

  • Labelling of Workplace Substances Codes of Practice

The code provides advice to employers, self-employed persons, suppliers and employees on meeting the labelling requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety (Hazardous Substances) Regulation 1996.

  • Mono-strand Post-tensioning of Concrete Buildings Code of Practice

This Industry Code of Practice provides employers, self-employed persons and employees with practical advice on safe mono-strand post-tensioning of concrete buildings.

  • Noise Management and Protection of Hearing at Work Codes of Practice

This code of practice is to assist employers, self-employed persons and employees to develop and implement practices for noise management and protection of hearing at work.

  • OHS Consultation Code of Practice

This Code of Practice is a practical guide for meeting the duty to consult set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 (OHS Act) and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001 (OHS Regulation).

  • Overhead Protective Structures Code of Practice

This industry code of practice has been produced to provide industry with practical guidance on the design, supply, installation and use of overhead protective structures.

  • Preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets Codes of Practice

The code is part of a regulatory package designed to deal with the safe use of hazardous substances in the workplace so as to minimise the risk of disease and injury due to the exposure of hazardous substances in the workplace.

  • Pumping Concrete Codes of Practice

This Code of Practice may be cited as, Code of Practice, Pumping concrete for the safe operation of concrete pumps and ancillary equipment used for pumping concrete.

  • Safe Handling Storage of Enzymatic Detergent Powders & Liquids Codes of Practice

This is a set of minimum requirements for the safe handling and storage of enzymatic detergent powders and liquids.

  • Safe Handling of Timber Preservatives and Treated Timber Codes of Practice

Provides practical guidance to employers, self-employed persons and employees to ensure the health and safety of workers handling timber preservatives and timber treated with preservatives.

  • Safe Use of Vinyl Chloride Code of Practice

This Code of Practice may be cited as the Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Vinyl Chloride

  • Safe Work on Roofs, Part 1 – Commercial & Industrial Buildings Codes of Practice

Provides employers, self employed persons and employees with practical advice on safe work on roofs for commercial and industrial buildings.

  • Safe Work on Roofs, Part 2 – Residential Buildings Codes of Practice

Provides employers, self-employed persons and employees with practical advice on preventing injury to persons engaged in work on roofs.

  • Safe Use and Storage of Chemicals in Agriculture Codes of Practice

A practical and informative guide to persons on how to comply with the relevant legislation relating to the use and storage of agricultural chemicals, including pesticides and herbicides.

  • Safe Use of Pesticides in Non-Agricultural Workplaces Codes of Practice

A guide for persons working in the pest control industry, green-keeping and other industries.

  • Safety Line Systems Codes of Practice

Provides employers, self employed persons and employees with practical advice on safety line systems.

  • Sawmilling Industry Codes of Practice

This code of practice is designed as an aid in the prevention of injury to persons employed in NSW sawmills. The code covers the sawmilling process of all timber species used in the NSW Timber Industry including softwood, hardwood, red gum and cypress pine. It applies to all sizes of timber sawmills ranging from small bush mills to large, fully automated mills.

  • Tunnels Under Construction Codes of Practice

This Code of Practice provides practical guidance for safe tunnel construction.

  • Workplace Amenities Code Of Practice

The aim of this code of practice is to assist employers in deciding on appropriate amenities for the welfare of their employees. It provides practical advice on implementing the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001.
