Vic Paper Points To Group Training Risk

Group apprentices and trainees are more vulnerable to workplace injury than direct hire apprentices and trainees, according to a new report.

The Victoria University School of Management report says the injury growth rate for group apprentices and trainees far exceeds their employment expansion rate.

The report also reveals compensation claims by direct hire apprentices/trainees have grown at a much slower rate than their growth in employment.

Elsa Underhill’s New employment, new risks: An Exploratory Study of Workplace Injuries Amongst Victorian Group Apprentices, says different approaches need to be developed to reduce whatever risks are causing the unequal injury rate.
